Open FieldTag and tap Take a Photo to use your camera, or Upload an Image to use a photo from your library. You can also tap Enter Manually to type in a model and serial number. FieldTag will decode the tag and return full specs within seconds.

FieldTag decodes data tags on HVAC units (air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, air handlers), water heaters, electrical panels, and appliances. It reads age, capacity, efficiency ratings, refrigerant type, electrical requirements, and more.

The free version includes full equipment decoding, age and refrigerant info, electrical specs, service manual lookup, CPSC recall search, and Field Guide reference charts. Ads are shown between scans. Jobs, scan history, and PDF export require a Pro subscription.

Pro includes everything in Free plus: GPT-4.1 for maximum scan accuracy, Jobs (create job sites and scan all equipment on-site), 90-day scan history with photos, PDF reports, search and notes on saved scans, and no ads — ever. Pro is $5.99/month or $49.99/year (2 months free). A 7-day free trial is included.

Subscriptions are managed through your Apple ID. To cancel, go to Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iPhone and tap FieldTag Pro. You can cancel at any time and you'll retain Pro access until the end of the billing period.

Make sure the data tag is well-lit and the photo is in focus. For best results, get close to the tag and make sure the entire label is visible. If the model or serial number was misread, use the Edit & Re-scan option on the results screen to correct it manually. If you continue having issues, email us and include a photo of the tag.

Photos are sent to OpenAI's API for processing and are not stored by FieldTag beyond your local scan history. We do not sell or share your data with third parties. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
